Third Grade Wellness Days

Third Grade Wellness Day

Healthy Kids. Healthy Habits. Healthy Futures.

Building healthy habits early can make a lasting difference!

Part of Nebraska Kids Fitness and Nutrition Day, this annual event takes place during September and October in four Panhandle communities: Sidney, Alliance, Scottsbluff, and Chadron.

Through hands-on activities, movement, and engaging learning experiences, students discover how healthy eating, physical activity, kindness, and everyday choices all contribute to their overall well-being.

Learning Through Movement and Fun!

Third grade is an ideal time to introduce healthy habits. Children at this age are developing independence, exploring new interests, and learning from the adults and role models around them.

Third Grade Wellness Day gives students the opportunity to try new activities, discover what they enjoy, and learn that being active can be fun!

Physical activity stations may include:

  • Kid Fit Circuit
  • Soccer
  • GaGa Ball
  • Playground Games
  • Volleyball Fundamentals
  • HIIT to Be Fit
  • Walking on the Trail
  • Parachute Games
  • Boot Camp
  •

From team sports and fitness challenges to outdoor adventures and cooperative games, students experience different ways to move their bodies, build confidence, practice teamwork, and have fun.

Activities vary by location and year, providing students with opportunities to try something new.

     More Than Fitness and Nutrition

Wellness is about more than what we eat and how much we move. Third Grade Wellness Day takes a whole-child approach, helping students develop skills that support their physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Interactive wellness and education stations may include:

    Healthy Eating and Nutrition

  • Be Wise About Portion Size / Label Logic: Students explore food portions and learn how to use nutrition labels to make informed food choices.
  • Healthy Snacks and Blender Bikes: Students discover nutritious snack options while experiencing how physical activity can help power a blender.
  • Energy Balance: Students learn how food provides energy for growth, learning, and play, and how movement helps keep their bodies healthy.
  •

    Healthy Choices and Prevention
  • Health Rocks! (Anti-Vaping): Using Nebraska 4-H Health Rocks! Educational resources, students learn about the risks of vaping and tobacco use and practicing making healthy choices.
  • Air Quality: Students explore the importance of clean air and how air quality can affect their health.
  •

    Social and Emotional Well-Being

  • Anti-Bullying: Through age-appropriate activities, students learn about kindness, respect, inclusion, and supporting others.

  • Together, these interactive stations help students understand how everyday choices contribute to their overall health and well-being.

    Inspiring Healthy Habits for Life

The goal of Third Grade Wellness Day is simple: help children discover that taking care of their health can be fun, empowering, and part of everyday life.

By introducing students to a variety of activities and positive role models, we hope to encourage healthy choices that continue long after the event.

When children find physical activities they enjoy, learn to fuel their bodies with nutritious foods, and practice kindness toward themselves and others, they build a foundation for lifelong well-being.
